Seaton Thedinger has extensive experience advising clients on a wide variety of legal matters, including those related to environmental, health and safety, general business compliance and contracting, business mergers, sales and acquisitions, and real estate matters. Seaton enjoys helping his clients meet their business goals and find solutions to their most challenging legal problems.
As the leader of the firm’s environmental, health and safety practice, Seaton focuses on corporate and real estate transactions, finance, compliance advice, enforcement actions, and cleanups. He appreciates the business needs of his clients and applies that understanding to his practice by assessing and managing environmental liability in corporate transactions and in all business decisions. Seaton has experience in industries as diverse as chemical and manufacturing to food and beverage. These matters have involved Superfund sites, other significantly contaminated sites, and companies with millions of dollars in potential or outstanding environmental, health and safety liabilities. Seaton also represents clients in compliance, permitting and enforcement matters involving air, water, waste and chemical safety and reporting rules.
Seaton also regularly represents clients in matters involving the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and similar state program requirements. He frequently coordinates with outside environmental consultants and in-house technical personnel, manages environmental, health and safety audits, advises clients on voluntary self-disclosures, and negotiates penalties with federal and state regulators. Seaton also has advised clients on disclosing environmental liabilities in public company filings and on preventing public disclosure of confidential business information and obtaining information from the government under the Freedom of Information Act, Colorado Open Records Act and other state open records acts.
Prior to joining Keating & Lyden, Seaton spent twelve years at Hogan Lovells US LLP, where he represented Fortune 500 clients in all manner of environmental, health, and safety matters, including negotiating environmental liabilities in multi-billion dollar transactions, often involving operations and facilities across the globe.
While attending the University of Colorado Law School, Seaton was managing editor of the Colorado Journal of International and Environmental Law and Policy and served as President of the Environmental Law Society.
When he isn’t working hard for his clients, Seaton enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons in the beautiful Colorado outdoors.
